Roof rack / roof bars?

I've just bought a X4 (used) - 2016, xdrive 2.0d M Sport.
It doesn't have the roof rails on it and I need to buy a set of roof bars.
Any advice or info to which ones fit for it? (BMW have said I need to get the integrated roof rails fitted and then buy a set of roof bars to fit those which seems extreme...)
Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris, I bought a 2016 35d last year and priced up the roof rails and installation with dealer - YIKES.

It is possible to fit roof racks to the car. There is an Australian manufacturer Rhino Racks which has a complete kit. This was a good option for me as I had a set of Rhino Racks from another car, all I had to do was buy the supports and the X4 specific mount kit.

The mount kit adapts the supports to brackets that hook onto the door opening and comes with very sturdy looking rubber blocks that compensate for the sloping roof line. The metal parts that hold the bracket to the door opening have rubber lining to prevent damage and movement.

Pricing for me was reasonable as I'm in Australia and only needed particular some parts to adapt my old bars. I haven't had a chance (or need) to fit them yet so I can't tell you how it works out, but the instructions seems pretty straightforward.

On the Rhinorack website there is a list of international distributors, they list someone in the UK. I can't post links yet.

Hope this helps ... !

Roof Rails

Fantastic reply yrp888, many many thanks. Much appreciated!
Yeah, I've since priced a dealer conversion and it is indeed $$$$. Your info and lead is really helpful so I'll see if I can source a UK supplier. Thanks again.

Hey Chris, how did you go with sourcing the RhinoRacks?

I should have set them up on mine when I went to the hardware store to buy 19 x 3m lengths of timber.

I had started unloading the sunroof lengths when the Mrs appeared, was quite shocked and she snapped this to put on FB. Of course the first comment was "he shoulda bought a ute ..."

So far yrp888 I've not bought them yet.
Managed to squeeze surfboard in by dropping half the back seats and reclining the front seat right back...
Means I can't fit the kids or the wife in so it's a winner all round!!
Will def need to buy them in the future though, so will let you know.
